As we close in on late October, it always seems to be a season of scary movies and thrillers. I went through my files and came up with the top twenty thrillers you haven’t seen but should (if you’re a thriller aficionado). Be aware that some of these are rated R for a reason! Please use discretion. Enjoy!
So, here they are, in no particular order:
1. | Following (1998) |
2. | A Murder of Crows (1998) |
3. | The Cry of the Owl (2009) |
4. | Best Laid Plans (1999) |
5. | Joshua (2007) |
6. | The Dead Girl (2006) |
7. | Blood Simple (1984) |
8. | Bug (2006) |
9. | Insomnia (2002) |
10. | Transsiberian (2008) |
11. | Frailty (2001) |
12. | Frequency (2000) |
13. | A Simple Plan (1998) |
14. | 11:14 (2003) |
15. | Boy A (2007) |
16. | Cellular (2004) |
17. | Hard Candy (2005) |
18. | Peacock (2010) |
19. | Nine Queens (2000) |
20. | The Hidden Face (2011) |
Have a happy October.

That’s a nice list. I’ve only seen a couple of those (Cellular, and Insomnia). They were both very good. I’m a bit inclined to check out a few more from your list now…..
But I just thought I’d chime in here … I’m not seeing one on the list that I really like a lot. Possibly my all time favorite Psychological Thriller (I’m probably the only person here who thinks this way about it though). Did you ever see ‘Secret Window’, with Johnny Depp and John Turturro (2004, I think).
Its one of my favorites.
And then again, there’s The Sixth Sense, which is arguably the best Psychological Thriller of all time (or one of the best).
I know October is long gone, but it will be back. And, now that I’m drowning in the flood of new serials, I may just give some of these a look.
Thx.
Without dates on these films it’s impossible to know which one you are recommending: example: there are three versions of Insomnia.
A very good point. They’re all fixed now. 🙂
One that I often think about, and no one else seems to have watched, is The Pledge with Jack Nicholson.
