In the last twenty years, one out of every three properties in Detroit has been foreclosed, leaving more than 100,000 abandoned homes, factories, churches, and schools. I heard on a radio program that killers from neighboring states were leaving bodies in the deserted buildings since it was so unlikely that they would ever be found. I thought, “Man, that is a great premise for a book!” 

But as I started writing the story, I realized that there was much more to it than that. As you read Every Deadly Kiss, you’ll see how this one news report led me to write one of my most complex and intriguing stories to date.
